Accessibility Definition
According to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, people with disabilities should have access "on an equal basis with others, to the physical environment, to transportation, to information and communications, including information and communications technologies and systems, and to other facilities and services open or provided to the public, both in urban and in rural areas".
"Buildings, roads, transportation and other indoor and outdoor facilities, including schools, housing, medical facilities and workplaces".
Portuguese Legislation
The Decree-Law number 163/2006, from the 8th of August, that replaced the Decree-Law number 123/97, from the 22nd of May, aproved the rules of accessibility to the buildings and establishments opened to public, public outside spaces (roads, sidewalks, parks, etc.) and housing.
The Guide named "Acessibility and Mobility for All" was created to facilitate the interpretation Decree-Law.
